Which Lipstick Color Suits Me?

The larger the selection of lipstick, the more difficult it is for many women to choose the right color. It’s not that complicated – provided you know your own skin undertone or skin type. Stilpalast shows how this is determined and which colors go perfectly with it.

A Matter of Taste

In general, all colors are allowed. You should feel good and under no circumstances do without a color that you currently find particularly great. In addition, new colors are added every beauty season, and old ones are dropped. Fashion, certain occasions, or even moods also influence the choice of color. The following tips should help you find a lipstick shade that perfectly fits your complexion and adds a tasteful accent but is not intrusive.

Determine Skin Tone

If you know very well your own skin tone or skin undertone, it is much easier for you to choose the right lipstick. This plays a major role in the choice of color. But how do you find out which skin type you belong to? Basically, you can differentiate between light and dark complexions. For a natural, not too mask-like everyday look, the following rule of thumb applies: Combine a delicate lipstick color with a light complexion and a stronger one with a darker complexion.

There is a little trick to determine the individual skin undertone: Take a look at the inside of your wrist in daylight (without an artificial light source). If the veins shimmer blue-violet when you clench a fist and the skin above them appears to be pink-bluish, you have a cool skin undertone. When choosing a lipstick, you should choose a color with a bluish undertone. The products on the shelf are often divided according to skin undertone or labeled with the addition “cool,” for example. Suitable colors include, for example, lilac, pink, and raspberry.

If, on the other hand, your veins shimmer greenish through your skin and your complexion seems to be more yellowish, you definitely belong to the group with a warm skin undertone. Another indication: your skin tends to be insensitive to the sun, and you tan relatively quickly. Here it is advisable to use lipstick with a yellowish undertone (often with the addition of “warm”). Ideal colors are, for example, apricot, beige, or salmon red.

Note Skin Type

Once skin undertone is determined, you should also consider your skin type when choosing the perfect lipstick color:

Light skin types take a long time to tan, but get sunburn faster. If you belong to this skin type group, you probably have red or naturally blonde hair, blue or green eyes, and maybe also freckles. Soft, soft pastel colors such as light rose, peach, coral, apricot, or nude tones are best suited to your delicate skin type for natural-looking everyday look.

For a more expressive (evening) make-up, you can also use seductive, intense shades of red. Always pay attention to your skin undertone. With a cold skin undertone, it is best to choose a bluish red (e.g., raspberry red), with a warm skin undertone a yellowish red (e.g., rose gold).

If you have very light skin, but dark hair, a bright pink, red or purple underlines your type very well. Red-haired or blonde ladies, those who like it more delicate can go for the more subtle tones. Caution is advised with lipstick colors that are too dark, because these make the light skin type appear too hard and too severe.

The medium skin type with their brown hair (light brown to dark brown) has it a little better in the sun because their skin does not redden quite as quickly as that of the light skin type. Since women with medium skin type have a little more color on their face, they should also use stronger lipstick colors to compensate. Rich berry tones, noble mauve tones, plum, rosewood, bright raspberry, and also red tones are perfect. Here, too, the skin undertone (cool or warm) is taken into account. If you categorize yourself with a medium skin type but have blonde hair, you shouldn’t choose dark colors, because they will look artificial. Instead, go for coral or copper.

General caution is advised with shades of brown. These make the complexion look unhealthy and pale. For dark skin types: If the hair and eyes are dark, the skin tans very quickly, and the complexion might also be dark to olive-colored. Because of their skin type, southern women can dig a little deeper into the color pot.

Everything is allowed from dark cherry red to strong orange to fuchsia, raspberry, blackberry, dark pink, or carmine red. Brown, beige, caramel, bronze, and gold tones have a slightly more subtle but less sensual effect. You should avoid lipstick colors that are too light, such as light purple. For dark skin types, blue-tinged shades are interesting because they bring out the white of the teeth in a particularly beautiful way.
